Good morning dear Network, I'm gathering ideas and I think you might have many interesting suggestions: do you have any recommendations for an interesting course for this 2024 that would take up a maximum of about ten cumulative working days? I'm open to any suggestion, whether it's related to my profession, leisure or sports! Just as long as they're interesting! Do you have anything in mind that you really liked or that ranks in the top three on your wish list? At the moment, I'm considering a straightforward yet effective course for intermediate Excel users, which should cover at least the following topics: pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Quick Analysis tool, sparklines, wildcards, etc. The next step might be to add something on business intelligence and data visualization. You should consider working during weekends! 🌴 Starting a business is not easy: I am the only backend developer at WeTransform so far, but I also am the CTO. So I am kind of Laurent de la CLERGERIE's nightmare, as I am not working 4 days, but 6 days a week to be able to do everything. During weekdays (except Wednesdays), I am the CTO 🤵‍♂️ of WeTransform. 🤵‍♂️ Managing 3 to 4 people, depending on the projects, giving them tasks, and making sure they are on track without any blockers. 🤵‍♂️ Defining the product, analyzing the market, and deciding what features to build next to increase our conversion and engagement. 🤵‍♂️ Discussing the organization strategy with the CEO, and making sure that the technical part is aligned with the business goals. This is a lot of meetings, a lot of discussions, and a lot of thinking. And I use the weekends to do what requires most of my focus: coding 🤓. 🤓 Some technical decisions require a lot of research, and I need to be able to read a lot of articles and try a lot of things. 🤓 Some features require thousands of lines of code, and I need to focus without being interrupted. 🤓 Some bugs or performance problems require deep investigations, and I need to be able to spend hours on them… Call me Sherlock ! While others are sipping piña coladas, I'm over here wrestling with code and debugging mysteries, and it works very well! If you need me on a Saturday, I'll be the one in the coffee shop, surrounded by empty espresso cups, battling it out with my code while sometimes dreaming of that elusive 4-day workweek. Cheers to all the weekend warriors out there!

📣 I'm a "casual speaker". I'm into meetups since I started working as an engineer, 10 (!) years ago. I've been to a lot of them, and I did some talks at some of them. Sometime I'm even hosting them, here at Doctolib, or organizing them, recently with the "Design System Nantes" Meetup. What's cool about meetups? Free beers and pizzas! Or, more seriously, bringing your colleague and finding new ones! Some bigger events, like dotJS, are more about meeting engineering or research rock stars and grabbing cool merch (because convention are all about those branded socks, right ?). Whatever the size of the event, it's part of what makes our jobs a true learning journey. Last year Christophe Porteneuve asked me if I would be interested in joining the editorial board of dotJS 2024. I was thrilled to be part of it and quickly applied: I was eager to learn more about the backstage of such a big event. Over the course of 1 month, we basically had to review 300+ proposals from everywhere around the world. I met great people from various location and backgrounds. Some where JS/TS specialist, and some other were more "generalists" (like me!). The main challenges we faced were first to select the best content possible from short, few-sentences proposals, and then avoid (un)conscious biases and ensure proper distribution of topics and speakers. Ideally, you need a good mix of topics and expertise levels (all revolving around JS, of course). Some talks need to be energizers (like, the first talk of the day), some need to be more technical and in-depth presentations, and some are more about their story-telling potential. Eventually you also want to ensure your event is representative of the diversity of our industry. The dotJS team had it right in the first place by providing the board with scorecards. Kudos to Nessrine Berrama for the perfect organization! It really echoes to the biases we are trying to avoid when hiring people here. Did you know that most Senior Engineers at Doctolib are part of the interviewers pool? We need this to keep our current hiring pipeline healthy, with dozen of open roles and active candidates. Our Talents team is providing everything from education material to standardized scorecards and processes to ensure the smoothest and fairest experience for candidates and interviewers. Coming back to #dotJS, what about the result? Well, that would be worth an entire article, going into details of what made the event a generalist but very premium event. The talks were really enjoyable and, as always, we met former colleagues and made new connections.
